Democrats Working To Squander Mandate

Okay, I understand the idea of the "team of rivals," but Barack Obama needs to consider placing his rivals in a position which suits them.

I think Hillary Clinton would do just fine in an Obama cabinet in any position but two. Secretary of Defense, and Secretary of State.

So why is she being considered for secretary of state, when her judgment and worldview are so far away from Obama's? The Supreme Court? fine. Commerce, finance, labor... those would all be great for Clinton, but Secretary of State is the worst place for her in an Obama administration.

And speaking of total doofus moves, what's up with the Senate? I don't really give a damn that Lieberman gets some sort of punishment. Retribution doesn't really do anyone any good. But he clearly is a neocon who can't be trusted.

They didn't boot him from the Democratic caucus? Okay, I can understand the reasons for that, but you stripped him of his chairmanship on the committee where he still actually has some sane and rational positions on the environment, but let him keep the Homeland Security chair?!?!?!?

Joe Lieberman has become a batshit crazy neocon on issues of national security. We need someone rational to chair that committee. Why would Senate Democrats leave him in the position where he can do the most damage? Don't they realize his failings will reflect poorly on all of them? Democrats can no longer blame things on Republicans because we control both houses of the legislature and the White House (come January 20 at least).

When Lieberman screws up -- as he WILL -- the Democrats will get the blame.

So it's not only a completely asinine move from the standpoint of what's best for the country, it's also a stupid move from a purely selfish political view.

What are they thinking?!?!?!?!?!?

Wise words from Michael Moore

I know Michael Moore is one of the favorite straw men of the Faux News talking heads, but he has some very sound advice for all of us who are enjoying the Obama victory.

...this is the week for all of us to revel in this great moment. Be humble about it. Do not treat the Republicans in your life the way they have treated you the past eight years. Show them the grace and goodness that Barack Obama exuded throughout the campaign.

This is where we get to prove that we're better than that. It's easy to criticize the way Republican supporters responded in some McCain/Palin rallies. This is where we model the behavior we would like to see.

And this is where we build the foundation for a new, progressive majority for a generation. Or we can squander this opportunity and see Regressive candidates become ascendant again as early as 2010.

The choice is ours. But we can make the right choice.

Yes We Can!

Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all . No, if your enemies are hungry, feed them; if they are thirsty, give them something to drink . Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Romans 12:1

Apparently Bush HASN'T done enough already

Our current president, the Prince of Plunder, realizes the end is near so he's trying to get as much damage to our country in these last few weeks of his presidency.

The lead in today's MSNBC story states:

The White House is working to enact a wide array of federal regulations, many of which would weaken government rules aimed at protecting consumers and the environment, before President Bush leaves office in January.

Some of the rules hurriedly being pushed through by the thoroughly corrupt and discredited Republican administration include:

According to the EPA's estimate (regarding the rule), it would allow millions of tons of additional carbon dioxide into the atmosphere annually, worsening global warming.

A related regulation would ease limits on emissions from coal-fired power plants near national parks.

A third rule would allow increased emissions from oil refineries, chemical factories and other industrial plants with complex manufacturing operations.

McCain Advisor Admits Their Health Plan Stinks

McCain advisor, Douglass Holtz-Eakin

From CNN:

Younger, healthier workers likely wouldn't abandon their company-sponsored plans, said Douglas Holtz-Eakin, McCain's senior economic policy adviser.

"Why would they leave?" said Holtz-Eakin. "What they are getting from their employer is way better than what they could get with the credit."

So in defending themselves from the criticism that their plan would encourage people with employer-sponsored plans, they admit that their tax credit won't be enough to pay for any kind of decent plan for the uninsured.

Nice.
